How the list is built
Fewer papers, better papers.
Thousands of exercise studies are published every month. This tracker keeps only the ones most likely to change how you train.
- 01
Search
Every three weeks we query PubMed across 15 themes, from VO₂max and mortality to hypertrophy, velocity-based training and heat, and ClinicalTrials.gov for the largest exercise trials.
- 02
Filter
We keep only the leading journals listed below, human studies in adults and papers with an abstract. Retracted papers and expressions of concern are removed.
- 03
Rank
Guidelines and consensus statements come first, then meta-analyses, systematic reviews and randomised trials, then large cohorts. A top-tier journal adds weight.
- 04
Refresh
The list covers the last 180 days and is rebuilt every three weeks. Papers and trials added in the latest update are marked New.

Selection is automated. The text under each title is the authors' own conclusion from the PubMed abstract, not our summary. For our reviewed summaries, see the research digest.
